Accountability

Transparent accountability creates structural justice.

Accountability Project 2: Charles County Charter Amendment

This election year, Charles County voters will consider an amendment that moves the county from home code rule to charter government – with long term implications regarding  how residents interact with and benefit from county governance and services. A lack of transparency and proper communication by county leaders has left the majority of residents unaware of the possible amendment and unable to be informed or involved in a process that could impact many aspects of their lives for decades to come.

Ji'Aire's Work Group's first report on this topic, "Relative Benefits, Representation, and Autonomy: A Look at a Charles County Charter Amendment and the Tri-County Council for Southern Maryland," aims to give an initial reference point for residents to consider the potential benefits of charter government, issues that must be brought forth into the light before an amendment is crafted, and how residents can have both a strong voice and controlling interest in shaping the future of Charles County.
