Advocacy, Activism, and Accountability

Why these three A's?

Charity and philanthropy aren't the answer to the structurally unjust practices that keep some communities underserved, neglected, and ignored. Maryland has the highest median income of any US state, yet 40% of children live in poverty, 16% of households are food insecure, and 1/3 are burdened by unaffordable rent.

Advocacy

Accountability

Advocacy

This means connecting people in need with direct services, like mental health care, affordable housing opportunities, and environmental justice

  • For now, we make referrals to organizations supporting those are experiencing mental illness, those who are incarcerated, unhoused people, people without life basics (plumbing, heat, food, etc)

  • Over time, we plan to facilitate wrap-around services for those needing mental health treatment (housing, child care, other basics, etc)

  • Our focus is on highly underserved areas who are largely ignored by the Tri-county leadership and local non-profits, creating self-sustaining ways for them to obtain all the basics without interference from or reliance upon any county, state, or local government entities or non-profits who may not always act in their best interests

Activism

Accountability

Advocacy

This means exposing injustices like a lack of basic human rights, essential services, and few or hard-to-access supports for vulnerable people, while pushing for laws and policies that create structural justice in underserved areas.

  • We are working for a drastic increase in funding for mental health treatment and care options, including wrap around services for affected families, services for incarcerated and homeless individuals, and wrap around services for affected families.

  • We are advocating for enough safe affordable and public housing to meet the current, outsized demand, as well as resources for those experiencing homelessness

  • We are working for environmental and structural justice in communities who don't have the human rights of access running water, sewer/septic, and other utilities

Accountability

Accountability

Accountability

This means viewing local, county, and state government bodies, initiatives, and leadership with a critical eye,  identifying where improvements can be made. It also includes shining a light on situations where political or nonprofit efforts are failing to be inclusive, accessible, transparent, and ethically consistent.

  • Our current projects inform Charles County residents on systems that limit their autonomy and political voice

  • We plan on analyzing legislation, executive orders, and most importantly, funding allocations in order to ask the hard questions about how government funds are spent and distributed and if those funds were fairly and effectively used to assist people in need.

  • Our areas of analysis focus on help for the most impacted residents of the tri-county area: those needing mental health assistance, seniors, communities lacking the basic utilities, food, housing, and medical care
